Valley Elementary, home of the Tigers, is one of the three original schools in the Poway Unified School District. Originally built in 1962, it has a rich history as a vital part of our community. But it also faces many challenges.

Valley Elementary is a Title I school. Title I is the nation’s oldest and largest federally funded program. The U.S. Department of Education created it in 1965 to close the gap between low-income students and other students to ensure that all children have a fair, equal and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education.

Each year, the Title I program provides more than $7 billion to school systems across the country for students at risk of failure and living at or near poverty. At Valley Elementary School, about 51 percent of the students come from low-income households. Some even live below the poverty line.

Despite its challenges, Valley has achieved distinction on many levels. It has outstanding teachers, exceptional students and innovative programs.

However, in order to maintain this success, Valley can no longer rely solely on public funding. Public funds are being cut at record rates. Recently, Valley reduced its staff, combined classes, increased class sizes and shortened the school year.

That’s why the school is turning to the community for the collaboration or financial support of corporate leaders who want to add value to their philanthropic endeavors and to private donors who believe in the mission of educating children.

As a corporate partner, your company would be recognized not just as a leader in the industry, but as a leader in the community. The decision could set an example and spur other businesses to follow your lead.

Your support could be used to hire more staff to support teachers, outfit the school with the latest technology, purchase new equipment for classrooms, outfit libraries with the latest tools, fund tutoring centers, purchase textbooks or classroom supplies, provide financial assistance to needy students or offer their teachers and administrators professional development, research opportunities, or the chance to conduct field studies.

You can support academics. You can support science and technology. You can support arts and humanities. You can make a difference. Your gift, no matter the size, matters to us. Become a corporate partner today. Email Foundation President Nha Nguyen at

Teradata Team PhotoTeradata took the lead as Gold Sponsor of the Cinco de Mayo Trail Run at the 6th annual event in 2012, and has held that lead position ever since. The Foundation is proud of its partnership with Teradata, a company that specializes in database software, enterprise data warehousing, data warehouse appliances and analytics. Teradata has also traditionally formed a company team to run in the race and always comes out in full force.

“The Cinco de Mayo Trail Run is one of Teradata’s most significant sponsorships because it gives us the opportunity to volunteer with other local employers and the community to support the elementary schools our children attend,” says D’Anne Hotchkiss, spokeswoman for Teradata. “The Valley Elementary Educational Foundation does an incredible job, every year, bringing together people and organizations in support of first-class education and scholastic achievement. They make the Trail Run one of the favorite events of our Rancho Bernardo Teradata Cares team.”
