Wendy Hovel

Wendy Rose Hovel joined the Valley Elementary Educational Foundation in 2016. She has two children in the Dual Language Program at Valley – a 5th grader and a kindergartener – and enjoys volunteering in the classroom whenever she can. She is excited to work with the Valley teachers this year on both internal and external grant opportunities as the Grants Chair for the Foundation. Wendy is originally from Wisconsin (and therefore loves the Packers, cheese curds, and cows), but obtained her degrees elsewhere, earning a BA in Biology (St. Olaf College), MS in Marine Science (College of William and Mary), and a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology (UC Davis). She has been in San Diego since 2001 and currently works as an aquatic toxicologist and project manager at Anchor QEA, an environmental and engineering consulting firm. Wendy’s job involves evaluating contamination in the environment and supporting cleanup efforts at contaminated sites across North America. In her free time, Wendy loves playing sports and games with her family, listening to music, beach-going, snorkeling, dog-walking, and volunteering. ;
